7 Proven Ways to Get Rid of Cottage-cheese Skin

Almost 90% of adult women in the US may be suffering from mild to extreme cases of cellulite, particularly in the thigh area. Countless of procedures and products have already been created and introduced in the market to help banish these unsightly dermal fat. However, many still find it difficult to totally eradicate this problem.

Based on the experience of countless women, experts have compiled proven ways to deal with cellulite woes in women for good. Follow these seven tips and you too will be able to see your cottage-cheese skin problems slowly but surely:

Do Some Detox

The first thing you have to do, if you can see cellulite starting to form on your thighs and other parts of your body, is to start a detox program or diet. Many alternative medicine practitioners believe that toxins, chemicals and waste products inside your body that have not been effectively eliminated can be a leading cause of cellulite. Thus, if you want to prevent further exacerbation of your problem or the formation of new fatty deposits underneath your skin, then it would really be wise to make sure that you cleanse your system of toxins and other harmful chemicals. Eating vegetables and fruits and drinking plenty of water are essential in making sure that you have a healthy bowel movement and elimination system.

Strengthen Your Skin Through Supplements

It would be quite impossible to expect that you get the right amounts of vitamins and minerals that your body needs everyday from the things that you eat and drink. Thus, it is wise to take some supplements. This will ascertain that you get all the nutrients that you need to help tone and strengthen your skin. A beautiful and well-toned skin will help minimize the appearance of cellulite.

Keep Your Cells Hydrated

As mentioned earlier, water is important in flushing out toxins from your body. However, water is also needed by your skin cells so that they will remain moisturized. So be sure to drink up at least 8 glasses everyday. You might need more if you are sweating a lot while working out.

Don’t Forget To Exercise

Although there is no exercise regimen that could melt down subcutaneous fat, which is responsible for the orange-peel look of the skin, you still need to exercise and move your butt so that your muscles will be strong and well toned. Furthermore, exercise will also help boost your blood circulation, which is also needed to prevent fatty deposits from forming underneath your skin.

Know How To Fight Stress

Did you know that stress can also pollute your body? Studies have shown that people who are in a state of perpetual stress overproduce hormones that can be bad for your system, including contributing to the formation of fat. If you don’t want your body to work against you, better start finding ways to reduce stress. Meditation, tai chi, yoga, or simply taking a vacation can be effective in relieving stress.

The Brainwashing Of Our Doctors Part II

In Part I I describe how from the moment they enter medical school, our future doctors are systematically ‘educated’ by the pharmaceutical industry in coercive and often unethical ways.  In Part II I will discuss how after medical school this pattern of ‘uni-polar’ information with no objective watchdog takes the corruption of the medical profession even further.  Without a doubt, doctors today have become little more than highly paid drug salesmen for the major pharmaceutical industry.

Once a medical student has finished his externship and enters private practice the real ‘brainwashing’ begins by the pharmaceutical companies.  To begin with, they quickly learn as young doctors that they must attend several conventions each year in order to take continuing education classes necessary to keep their license in good standing.  These conventions are sponsored and paid for in large part by pharmaceutical companies.

Often the travel and hotel and food expenses are all paid for by the pharmaceutical companies.  Once the doctors are there the companies have a captive audience to systematically ‘educate’ about their new drugs and how they are the latest and greatest things to hit the medical establishment.  Staff ‘doctors’ on the payroll of the pharmaceutical companies lecture on the benefits of the drugs and no word is ever mentioned about non-drug treatment options.  All around the hotel colorful signs promoting the new drugs are hung.  Toys, gifts, knick knacks, pens, calendars, calculators…you name it and the pharma companies give them out.

Lavish buffets and meals are provided to the doctors as they are presented with the latest and greatest treatments for numerous ailments running the gamut from minor to the life threatening.  All the while, not a word is mentioned anywhere about alternative or non-drug treatments for any of the conditions.  Is it no wonder most doctors don’t mention to their patients that often times the best approach is just to eat healthy, exercise or some other ‘common sense’ treatment?  But wait, it doesn’t end at the convention.

Once back at the office, an army of attractive pharmaceutical reps descend on doctor’s offices in a coordinated attack to further convince the doctors to prescribe their drugs to the patients.  The first ones are always free.  Huge boxes of samples are given, but once on the drugs many people can’t get off because of the addictive or bad withdrawal symptoms of the drugs.  The pharmaceutical reps come bearing free lunches and lavish food trays.  They are trained to memorize ‘scripts’ that can answer any and all possible questions that the doctors might have about the drugs that are being ‘pushed’.

Of course none of these pharmaceutical reps have any medical training.  Many were cosmetologists, waitresses and secretaries only weeks or months before their intensive ‘training’ to become pharmaceutical reps.  Meanwhile, the doctors eat it up.  They know that if they give out the drugs then the free meals will continue to come and the free trips and conventions to exotic resorts in the Bahamas, Las Vegas or the Poconos …

Hidden Health Benefits of Paw-Paw

Hidden health Benefits of Paw-Paw

In the elementary science, paw-paw is classified with other 22 plants and trees inthe paw-paw genus.  Paw-paw belongs to the family of carica papaya.

Back in my village, paw-paw was consumed like other fruits such as banana, mango, carrot; without any special reason though.  However, with education and its antendant benefits, one can now appreciate the need to embrace paw-paw and its health benefits. With education too, we could see that paw-paw apart from the health benefits, could be consumed in different forms.

Briefly, the following nutritional health benefits could be derived from the consumption of paw-paw:

* It is easily digestible.
* It aids in the digestion of other foods.
* It is rich in vitamins A and C.
* Paw-paw juice mixed with milk is a good blood tonic.
* It prevents stomach troubles such as indigestion, constipation etc.
* It is good in the treatment of infective diarrhea.
* It smoothens the skin and prevents skin problems like eczema, pimples, and acne.
* It is good in the treatment of stomach ulcer.
* Control of asthmatic attack by burning and inhaling the dry leaves.

Paw-paw can be consumed in different forms.  Some people prefer it riped and soft while others prefer it half-riped and strong.  Whichever way it is consumed, there is the presence of vitamins A and C, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron and soluble vegetable fiber.

Back in the village still, paw-paw has been used in the treatment and prevention of many sicknesses; there is though no scientific prove of these assertions. For instance, paw-paw leaves mixed with unriped ones in collaboration with some other leaves when boiled together is used in the treatment of malaria; chewing at least 2 tablespoon of the seeds of unriped paw-paw first thing in the morning and last thing in the night for about 3 days is a good worm expeller; control of asthma attack by burning and inhaling the dry health leaves.

While writing this hub, I discovered that contrary to my earlier belief that paw-paw originated in my village in Nigeria, paw-paw actually originated from South America!…

Anxiety Stress Management

Anxiety stress management is an interesting juxtaposition of ideas.

There is a way to manage both anxiety and stress, or even anxiety about stress management.

The physiology of anxiety and stress is very similar, and the antidote is of course some kind of relaxation.

Most of my clients will began the anxiety stress management process by telling me of the external situation, the chronology, and the implicit assumption is that they will no longer feel anxiety or stress when the external world has been controlled.

So at this point in the process of anxiety stress management, I will ask my clients where they see me.

Almost all will reply that they see me across the room, and I will tell them that they are incorrect.

The only place they can see me is in the visual cortex, inside their head.

Most clients are a bit taken aback by that insight, and they know they cannot argue it either.

And then I repeat the question for hearing, smell, taste, and pressure, and close off our exercise be reminding them that their entire stress producing experience exists inside them, not outside them, and then we begin teaching a number of ways to change the things we can change, thinking, feelings, and behavior, so that stress is minimized.

Clients at this point are beginning to open their eyes to the fact that anxiety stress management is different than the external thing they would like to change by now, although I usually have to remind them (and myself) frequently of old patterns of thinking (for example-some one did it to me, I am the victim).

At this point in the training we can really begin to demonstrate how our thought about the external situation is what brings on the physiology of anxiety/stress, and how changing the thought changes the feeling very fast.

I ask the parents, for example, as they are launching into their diatribe, what they are feeling and how intense that feeling is.

After some work to identify the feeling, and its intensity, I ask them to imagine holding their child as a new born, and I ask them to tell me what they are feeling now, and almost always, with a bit of coaching, folks will report they fell love now, and then I ask them if the child is in the room with us, and obviously, the answer is no.

Then I ask them to have the thought that made them angry, stressed, or anxious, and then switch to holding their baby again, until they get it that changing the thought changes the feeling, but not the external world, and that change in physiology can happen in as little as 1/18th second, according to the author of FLOW, Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi,Ph.D.

So it is not the presence of the child or the problem that makes them feel, it is the thought about either that brings the feeling, and they can feel love for their baby when they are in the middle …

Neutering of Cats – Advantages and Disadvantages

Many people believe neutering is cruel to cats. The truth, however, is a bit different. Neutering not only prevents the cat from having kitten, but it also keeps the cat healthy.

According to a survey from 1995, about 80% of the cats and dogs in the USA are spayed or neutered.

What Does Neutering Mean?

Neutering is a routine surgery for removal of the cat’s sex organs. After this surgery, the cat is unable to reproduce. In addition, the procedure stops the production of sexual hormones which cause the cat’s sexual behavior. The decision whether to neuter your cat or not is one of the most important decisions that a cat owner has to take.

What Exactly is Done during the Surgery?

Neuter is a very simple and routine surgery performed in veterinary medicine. The cat should not be feed the night before because anesthesia is performed on an empty stomach. When the procedure is for male cats, it is called castration, while for female cats it is known as spaying.

Castration involves the removal of the gonads, or testicles. This intervention removes the sperm source and the source of testosterone. Under general anesthesia, two small incisions are made in the scrotum’s skin and both testicles are removed. In other words, the male cat is castrated.

Female cats undergo spaying which is the removal of the uterus and the ovaries. A small area on the stomach is shaved and a little incision is made. The ovaries and the uterus are removed through this incision. This surgery is equivalent to a full hysterectomy.

When Should a Cat be Neutered?

Most vets recommend the cat undergoes this procedure when it is about six months old, before the car reaches sexual maturity. However, this may vary for the different cats. A common practice in the USA is cats to be neutered while they are very young, and sometimes cats aged eight weeks undergo such surgery.

A pregnant female cat can be neutered, too, but it may be very dangerous for the mother, especially if the procedure is performed in late pregnancy.

How Long Does the Rehabilitation Take?

Males cats are usually back to their normal lives on the day after the surgery. Female cats need some more time – about one or two days later they will be healthy.

The Advantages of Neutering

Most cat owners don’t know exactly why they should neuter their cats. Here is a quick list of some of the key reasons.

– Male cat usually develop some undesirable changes in their behavior after their puberty, when they are approximately 6-8 months old. These changes include marking of their territory by spraying urine around the house, or expanding their territory and spraying urine outside and around the house. This is usually one of the reasons for cats being involved in car accidents. You can prevent these changes by neutering your cat.

– Neutering stops the cat spaying in the house. Urine is unsanitary and has a bad odor that …

Veterinarian Medicine: Science or Superstition?

Actually, more superstition than you would imagine.

The science part, we all know. By application of laws, theories, and technologies borrowed from physics, biochemistry, and engineering, veterinary medicine takes on the appearance of a science.

But, surely, mere application of scientific principles does not make an enterprise a science. After all, belief systems of all kinds use scientific principles. Religions apply the principles of economics, engineering, and more. But no one would confuse religion with science.

A science is a coherent system that produces consistent outcomes. Orthodox veterinary medicine has value, but it is neither coherent nor consistent.

The lack of consistency is obvious. Anyone having an animal treated at a vet knows that the outcome is chancy. Maybe the treatment will work and maybe it won’t. Vets make no excuses for this lack of certainty and everyone, including myself, accepts it. Animals are extraordinarily complex creations and no one should expect predictable results.

The lack of coherence, though, is another matter. After all, we expect any credentialed group, especially one authorized to deal in sickness and health to have a logical coherence. We expect their facts to be part of a real, objective analysis. Many of the “facts” of veterinary medicine are not facts at all.

A complete analysis of the logical flaws in veterinary medicine would take a much longer article and will be dealt with in the future. However, their most flagrant disregard for reality has to be the reliance upon disease entities.

Disease entities do not exist! At least they do not exist in the way that we ordinarily understand a thing to exist. Things, entities, objects have a mass that can be measured and weighed. Diseases do not have extension in time or space. There is no there there. They have no factual basis. Disease entities are a focus for treatment, a shorthand notation to explain a complex biological process.

No problem with veterinarians using shorthand to focus their treatments. The problem arises when a convenient way of talking about a condition takes on a life of its own. The problem arises when we start to confuse the label of a disease entity for the reality of a disease process.

Take for an example, Parvo in dogs. What is it? It is not the Parvo Virus. The Parvo Virus existed before 1984. But Parvo, the disease, did not. Before 1984, dogs contracted the Parvo Virus but most of them did not contract Parvo, the disease.

Even today, most unvaccinated dogs contracting Parvo will recover. Some, though, will die within 24 hours. The virus is the same. The dogs are different. Parvo, and all diseases, describe a complex response between host and pathogen. Parvo is not a thing. It is a process.

Facts are stubbornly solid. They have a solidity that superstitions lack. So the veterinarian inability to affect the immune strength of dogs is a fact that should be addressed but for many reasons is not. So since the vets lack the tools, they do …

Misuse of Prescription Drugs

Misuse of Prescription Drugs

More American children are being treated with psychiatric drugs such as Prozac, Ritalin and Risperdal than in the past. According to a new study, the number of children taking such drugs has tripled from 1987 to 1996 and continued to increase through 2000.(

The increase may be indicative of better diagnosis of mental illness in children, however, researchers voiced concern that drug-company marketing, cost-saving efforts by insurance companies and increased demands on parents and physicians may be fueling the urge to prescribe medication. (

Although most psychiatrists say that a treatment plan including both medication and psychotherapy is most effective, psychotherapy is more expensive in the short-term than medication. Therefore, insurance companies stand to increase their profits by promoting medication over therapy (Mercola).

Prescription drug abuse is the use of prescription medication in a manner that is not prescribed by a health care practitioner. This includes using someone else’s prescription or using your own prescription in a way not directed by your doctor.  Most people take prescription medication responsibly under a doctor’s care. However, there has been a steady increase in the non-medical use of these medications, especially by teenagers. Prescription drug abuse knows no boundaries; it occurs in all social, economic, geographic, and ethnic groups.  Kids as young as 12 are trying prescription drugs to get high. Prescription drugs are often more easily available to children than illicit drugs like marijuana because they can be stolen from the medicine cabinet at home, rather than having to be bought on the streets. An added danger of abusing prescription drugs is that teens consider them safer than street drugs because they are manufactured by a pharmaceutical company.  Although any prescription drug can be abused, the three types of drugs that are most commonly abused are:

  • Pain Killers, also known as narcotic or opiates. Examples include morphine, codeine, OxyContin (oxycodone), Vicodin (hydrocodone) and Demerol (meperidine). A large single dose can cause severe respiratory depression and death. Long-term abuse leads to physical dependence and, in some cases, addiction.
  • Depressants, which are prescribed to treat anxiety and sleep disorders. Examples are Nembutal (pentobarbital sodium), Valium (diazepam), and Xanax (alprazolam). They slow down normal brain function and can cause a drowsy, uncoordinated feeling. Large doses can depress breathing and cause a coma. Long-term abuse can lead to physical dependence and addiction.
  • Stimulants are often prescribed to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Examples include Ritalin (methylphenidate) and Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine). These drugs elevate blood pressure and heart rate. High doses can cause dangerously high body temperature and cardiac arrest brought on by an abnormal heartbeat.(

OTC drugs are also abused by teens. Some OTC products used medically to treat allergies and colds contain drugs that can cause serious harm if abused in large doses for non-medical purposes. Cough syrups can be equally dangerous when teens drink them to get high.  Painkillers are the most commonly abused by teens, especially by younger teens. Stimulant abuse is more common among older teens and college …

Step Aerobic Moves

Regular practice of aerobic exercise can help one to lose substantial weight. Aerobics also helps in increasing the fitness levels and improve the condition of the cardiovascular system. For those who are in a hurry to lose weight, the right option is aerobic step movements and equipments.Diagnosis Aerobic exercises include jogging, skipping, fast walking, swimming, cycling, dance and step movements. Aerobic step movements are fast and they do not strain the muscles unlike in jogging. Any form of aerobics uses the lungs powerfully. Step aerobics involves both movements on a step and dance forms.

Aerobic dance is usually performed on the floor. For step aerobics arm gestures get combined with body and foot movements. This helps in moving the large muscles and increases burning of fat. An individual works out vertically and not horizontally in step aerobics. The person who is exercising places a step at a height of four to ten inches in front of him or her. The exercise is to step up and down in a rhythmic manner to the sound of music. Beginners start with a step at a height of four inches. With increase in one’s fitness, the step’s height is also increased gradually.

Step aerobics workout appears to be easy but it is highly strenuous. This helps to increase one’s fitness levels. As the hips and legs are continuously used to raise and lower the body, the excess fat in those parts shed quite fast. One must remember not to start exercising suddenly. Working out on a step bench needs proper warm up.

The height of the bench should be kept in mind. If the bench is too high or low, it causes stress to the body.Diagnosis Wearing bedroom slippers in place of running shoes is a strict no-no. One should always stop exercising the moment tiredness sets in. To make the stretch comfortable one should stand close to the step bench while exercising. Since the entire weight of the body is supported by the step bench, one should be careful while placing the foot on the bench.

Aerobic step movements can be easily performed at one’s home. The equipments are cheap compared to any other exercise machines. Busy people who do not have the time to visit a gym can always opt for aerobic step movement. It is the ideal work out for those who want to remain fit and yet want to exercise in their own homes.…
