Studies show that certain vitamins, minerals and natural products provide protection against cancer. Vitamin E

Several studies have shown that vitamin E, particularly in conjunction with Selenium, could have a protective role against prostate cancer. Vitamin E helps combat free radicals that play a role in the appearance of cancer.

The results of a cancer prevention study carried out in Finland, published its results in 1998. The study involved 29,133 men, all smokers, who every day for a period of 6 years took either 50 mg of vitamin E or a placebo. The incidence of prostate cancer in those taking the daily dose of vitamin E showed an overall reduction of 32% over those taking the placebo.


Selenium is a mineral found in the ground and which we ingest through eating fruits and vegetables. Men with low levels of selenium in the blood have a risk of prostate cancer four to five times higher than normal. The amount of Selenium retained in the bloodstream reduces with age, and unfortunately the soil in many western countries (where the risk of prostate cancer is highest) is poor in selenium.

The results of a clinical study carried out by the University of Arizona showed that taking a complement of 200 micrograms of Selenium each day could reduce the incidence of prostate cancer by 63%.

Selenium also enters our diet by beng present in cereals, meat, fish, and eggs. Liver and Brazil nuts are also particularly rich sources of selenium.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is especially well known, along with calcium, for the important role it plays in the health of your bones. The body synthesizes about two-thirds of its vitamin D requirement thanks to the sun (assuming you spend enough time in the sun). The rest is obtained through food.

Vitamin D is also an important anti-cancer weapon. Several American studies have shown that people who live at more northerly latitudes are significantly more prone to cancer than those who live near to the Equator. Those further north are generally deficient in vitamin D due to the weaker sunlight. This is certainly true for prostate cancer: for example the results of a study published in the December 1992 issue of the journal “Cancer” demonstrate that the incidence of prostate cancer in the state of Florida is twice that in the northern State of Maine.


Quercetin is a substance synthesized by plants, and which belongs to the large group known as flavenoids. It is found in substances such as red wine, onions and green tea. Quercetin possesses anti-oxidant properties. ü  Eat healthy meals.  Eating a well-balanced diet without skipping meals will help maintain an appropriate weight and decrease risk of developing diabetes and heart disease as one becomes an adult.  Eliminate all trans fats which includes almost all fast foods.  Serve a minimum of 5 portions of fresh fruits and vegetables daily, complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and lean meats, fish and poultry.  Purchase wild fish and organic food products as often as possible.

Why eat breakfast? Breakfast will not only increase your overall energy, but also keep your blood sugar levels even and will reduce your cravings and overeating throughout the day.  Think of breakfast as brain food that will help improve concentration and improve performance at school.  It will prevent a mid-morning slump and reduce the tendency to eat higher calorie snacks.

Current Health Insurance Reform Issues

No sooner had President Obama signed the last piece of the health care reform package on March 30 than he hit the road, traveling to a number of states to sell the public on the new health care law of the land. On their Easter/Passover recess break, many members of Congress were engaged in their own hearts and minds campaign on health reform back in their home districts. A new Gallup poll, however, seems to show that Democratic supporters of the bill have the tougher selling job. The poll shows that 47 percent of Americans believe it is a good thing that the bill passed while 50 percent believe it to be a bad thing. And, the results show that both opponents and proponents agree that the new law does not do nearly enough to address rising health care costs. Health plans, such as Aetna, have maintained that the success of health care reform will hinge on addressing health care costs, and we have pledged to continue working toward reforms that would achieve affordability.

ARIZONA: After a lengthy debate in special session, the legislature voted along party lines to permit a lawsuit challenging the newly enacted federal health care reform law. It is unclear whether Governor Jan Brewer will join other states in the lawsuit filed in Florida, since the attorney general has advised that he will not participate in any litigation on this issue. Brewer had asked lawmakers for authority to go around the attorney general and sue on the state’s behalf.

COLORADO: A bill prohibiting the use of gender as an underwriting factor in setting rates for individual policies passed both chambers and will become effective with plans issued or renewed after January 1, 2011. The bill is part of Governor Ritter’s health reform package.

GEORGIA: A bill that originally would have imposed a tax on health plans – the language regarding a health plan tax was removed recently — was passed out of the Senate last week. However, whether the Governor will sign the bill in its current form is not clear.

IDAHO: The legislature adjourned a week early last week, but not before passing a number of items to close out the session. Governor Otter has signed a number of the bills, including the “Idaho Health Freedom Act”, reserving citizens’ right to choose or decline health care services without being penalized by the federal government and authorizing the state attorney general to seek legal recourse to uphold this policy. Also signed were bills regulating the relationship between third-party administrators and insurers, and establishing an immunization board to maintain a single distribution center for providers and determine an assessment on carriers to fund the program.  Another bill amends the duties of the Commission of Health Information Technology Planning to include monitoring the state’s health data exchange and recommending improvements to IT capabilities. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), also known by the name Stein-Leventhal syndrome, is a hormonal problem that causes women to have a variety of symptom.

In Ayurveda Acharya Sushruta has mentioned Bandhya (Su/UT/38/10) a type of yonivyapada whose symptom is amenorrhoea or oligomenorrhoea. Similarly Acharaya Charaka has described Arajasaka (Ch/ChiS/30/17), a Yonivyapada indicating Amenorrhoea A combination of classical history, close observation of patient and the following investigations are important tools to confirm a case of polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The best reason to forgive is because Jesus commanded us to forgive. We learn from Scripture, if we don’t forgive, neither will we be forgiven

Matthew 6:14-16 says that, for if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

  • God’s forgiveness, which is necessary for salvation and His favor toward you.
  • Your forgiveness of others. This is necessary for your own health. It will also release others to receive God’s favor.
  • Self-forgiveness. This is necessary for your own health spiritually, mentally and physically

To love the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and your neighbour as yourself, means to experience forgiveness and to forgive others as well as yourself. (Lord’s Prayer, in Matthew 6:12.)

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us”(Psalm 103:10-12). “I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins” (Isaiah 43:25).

After knowing God has forgiven you, and after forgiving others who have wronged you, there should be no barrier to hinder you from forgiving yourself. By faith, accept God’s Word in Isaiah 43:18,19.

We also forgive so that our prayers will not be hindered: Mark 11:25 and when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
