Allergy symptoms: Hives, rashes and swelling
Hives which are also known as urticaria are an outbreak of swollen patches on the skin which appears suddenly as pale red bumps, patches or even welts. These patches forms the rashes which involves a change in the texture and colour of your skin. Most at times, what you will first notice on your skin are patches of redness. This may be due to allergy or some other reasons. Hives always itch, burn and sometimes stings. They can appear on any part of your body such as, your face, lips, ears or tongue. Hives due vary in size, but the disgusting thing about them is that they may join together to form larger areas called plaques. They can last for several hours to some days before they fade off.
A simple rash is known as dermatitis which is referred to as inflammation of the skin.
When allergies causes swelling beneath the surface of the skin, it is called angioedema. Angioedema is characterized by deep swelling around the eyes and lips and most time of the genitals, hands, and feet. Generally, it lasts longer than hives, but the swelling usually goes away in less than 24 hours.
What Causes Hives And Angioedema
Hives and angioedema form as a result of their response to histamine which is a chemical released from some specialized cells along the skins of the blood vessels when blood plasma leaks out of the blood vessels of the skin. And this could be caused by a lot of things like what we take and the food we eat like wheat, chocolate and eggs. Other things that could also be responsible are the medicine we take, some insect bite.
Fresh foods are likely to cause hives too. Apart from the fact that Fresh foods cause hives all the time than cooked foods. Certain food additives and preservatives may also be a key determinant .Hives and Angioedema.may also be caused by medicines.
When the skin are directly exposed to either sun, heat, cold , vibration, pressure, sweating or exercise, they can also cause hives.
These types of hives manifest as a result of all the things that your skin touches.i.e. when you come in contact with things like:
- Dyes and other chemical in clothings
- Cosmetics, detergents, and soaps
- Poison ivy, sumac and oak
- Chemicals in rubber products, elastic and latex
When hives have stayed for more than 45 days, it could simply be termed as a chronic condition. And getting the cause of this is always difficult. There are time when the causes can be the same. Autoimmunity, hormonal disorder, malignancy and chronic infections can also cause hives.
This type occurs when rashes appears in patches of redness and scaling around the eyelids, mouth, nose,eyebrows, the trunk, and be-hind the ears. If it happens on your scalp, it is called dandruff in adults and cradle cap in infants.
